H6

I learned late last night that I need to have a copy of my driving record, which California calls an H6 form, to HQ by Wednesday. No real problem there, as my driving record is spotless. It's just that going to the DMV is about as much fun as getting hit in the head with a hammer. I'll have to spend an hour in line, if I'm lucky, to get a simple printout. And why, again, don't I have an online account with the DMV? Why can't this be done without an office visit? Is it because the DMV is still in the stone age and they employ workers who care nothing about efficiency and customer service?

I heard that going on a Tues. or Wed. early in the morning when they open is the best time to go.

Try going to the DMV about 5 to 10 minutes before closing. They can't leave until everyone is taken care of, and they works as fast as they can to get you out of there.

I may try one of these ideas. In the end I'll probably wait until the last possible moment. I found out the drop-dead deadline for turning in the H6 is 5 p.m. Thurs. I'll probably be at the DMV around 3:30 p.m.

You can make an appointment for the DMV online. It is fast and easy, surprising for ANYTHING involving the DMV. I made an appointment last week on Monday for the following Thursday. Got my choice of times, too.

Appointments are probably the best way. Thanks, Meg.

I made an interesting discovery, though. The DMV office out on Sweetwater and Highway 94 (14mi east of downtown), has no waiting. I walked right up to the counter and got the H6. They are a CDL office, but anybody can get the H6 there. I forgot to ask what other general services they offer.
